Are the Penguins up for a really good year?

Welcome back guys as we start the 2023-24 season for hockey, and the hockey times.

As we all know, the Pittsburgh Penguins got the Norris trophy winning defenseman, Erik Karlson, Thanks to the Pens GM Kyle Dubas who is potentially making the pens into a powerhouse team before they start the rebuild in about 4 years. Pens fans are saying they can't wait to see the power play this year, with Erik Karlson , with Kris Letang, Guentzul Malkin, and Crosby down low.

Will Karlson have the same season he had last year?

People say he won't be as good as he was last year, but could still be a threat to other teams. For example, Cale Makar won the Norris trophy and had maybe the best season of his career, and then the next year, ( 2022-23) he was still maybe one of the top defenders in the NHL but didn't have the same season. With the Penguins having one of the oldest teams in the NHL he adds to it. '' Even without Karlson this year, I think the Penguins would have had a huge spark in them from last season and are down for an awesome season, and Karlson adds to that, says Scott Wheeler.

Was this trade a waste or not?

There is no straight path we can see with him, but all we know are 3 things, 1. It might make the rebuild in 4 years a lot harder than expected just because of the picks we traded. And 2. He is could be the best defensemen for the NHL again and maybe lead the penguins to a stanley cup title. And lastly 3. He could the penguins could suck again and karlson will mean nothing, or he is going to add to the team but not be as good as he was last year but still lead the Pens to a better season than last year. In my opinion this trade was the right one to make.

The trio is just getting older and older

As you all know the most OG Pens on the team known as Crosby, Malkin, and Letang are not as good as they were through 2010-2018. Crosby has turned into a wise old man who knows tons about the game, and Letang is just getting old with suffering a stroke last year and his father dying. Again Karlson is here to help, but what doesn't help about him is that he is almost as old as most of those guys, this is the last resort for the Penguins.
